Part of the Meet New Mills project.
Torr Vale Tap: Meet Harry, one of the team running New Mills’ welcoming and picturesque venue.

Name of business:
Torr Vale Tap.
Where did the name come from?
We’re the Torr Vale Tap as we’re effectively the bar part of Torr Vale Mill – we’re the same family, including the events space, venue, and cottages too. And as a Tap we have loads of beers on!
What do you offer?
We’re a cafe and bar, so we do breakfasts & lunches, daily specials, flatbreads, and our incredible homemade pies & scones too. Drinks wise we have a regular rotation of Torrside beers, a fantastic dutch beer called Uiltje, and some lovely wines including a bar-exclusive New Zealand Sauvignon that you can’t get in shops. We also have incredible scenery, located alongside the Millennium Walkway.
How many people are in your team?
I’m the hospitality manager, and there’s 25 others alongside me.
How long have you been open?
About 18 months or so now as the Tap – locals will remember the space as The Shrub Club before that.
Are you from New Mills?
I’m not – I only moved here in June! From Preston originally then arrived in New Mills via Scunthorpe, Scotland, and a good few years in Wales.
What do you like about having your business in New Mills/living in New Mills?
The scenery is stunning – my commute is absolutely incredible, whatever the season. It’s a great town and well connected too. As for the people – our staff are amazing, super hardworking, and importantly they all really look out for each other.
Is there anything exciting going on at the moment?
We have lots of weddings booked in the events space, and we also have regular live music and live comedy every month.
