Stockport County vs. Crewe Alexandra 12.08.2025
After two wins in two league games to start the season, Stockport County were back at Edgeley Park for the first round of the Carabao Cup. It was a Cheshire derby as Crewe and their miserbale fans arrived in Edgeley on a positively tropical Tuesday evening. The sun was shining, the heat was genuinely balmy, and the ground was half-full. The bonus of this was collating the home fans together in the Cheadle, helping the atmosphere.

The first half was mostly one-way traffic, County having a few good chances to score but somehow not getting it over the line. Credit to Crewe’s keeper, Waller, and some slightly ropey finishing. Even when not at full strength, though, County have a confidence around them that a goal is coming.

And like London buses etc, after the break we had 2 in 2 minutes. Wootton made it three goals in three games for himself, while Nathan Lowe bagged his first goal in County colours. Fiorini put the game to bed with a screamer from the edge of the area too.

The evening belonged to Ben Hinchcliffe though, the GOAT making his 400th appearance for County – an incredible achievement.
Next up – Orient on Saturday. No one mention the playoffs…
