Last week I did two sets of corporate headshots, for two very different small independent businesses. One thing they both had in common though was that they wanted their headshots to be “human”.

There is still a supposed ideal of a corporate headshot: person in suit against grey/black/white background:

Note: this is a STOCK IMAGE, not my own!

This style stills has its place, I’m sure. But both clients came to me because they, in their own words, wanting something warmer – something more representative of the personality of their employees, and their businesses.

One business – a small, local marketing firm – wanted to show that they’re approachable, and show the real people behind the website – something important for them as they work with small, independent businesses too.

The other company was larger, but worked in social housing. Their marketing officer – as well as updating headshots for the first time in about 15 years! – wanted to show a warmer, less corporate side of themselves. It was important to put a human face to their company as they work with vulnerable people.

For both companies we worked to a similar brief – natural light where possible, and some outdoor/environmental shots too. I think we nailed it:

Miles away from the “traditional” corporate headshot – and a contemporary, warm update for both businesses.
