A look at December’s event for a good cause – the ever-noisy Tractor Run!

Tractor Run 2024 - Marple, Poynton, Strines, High Lane - by Stockport photographer Adam Edwards

The Tractor Run is an annual event which goes through Poynton, Marple, New Mills, Disley and surrounding areas. It started as a tribute to those that the local farming community had lost, and has grown into a much-loved local event which draws thousands on to the pavements to see the convoy go past!

In recent years the Tractor Run has been a fittingly-decorated end to the year and 2024 was no exception, the event taking place on the 29th December. In Marple, the convoy arrive via Windlehurst Road and head down Hibbert Lane to the town centre, then weaving back towards Strines.

This gives pkenty of spectators the chance to see the effort that has gone into the procession from those involved. While some vehicles are their usual selves, most are decorated – festively or in fancy dress – and aimed at putting smiles on faces.

Not just looking pretty though – the Annual Tractor Run through Marple now chooses a charity and encourages donations. This year the event donated an amazing £21,300 for The Christie – a phenomenal achievement!

It was lovely to see, once again, the streets lined with people taking it all in. An event this size – hundreds of vehicles in convoy from one town to the next – takes some organisation and it’s evident that the reason, the cause, is something close to their hearts.

Originally meant to pay tribute to those lost from the farming community, the event is now a tradition in Marple. Raising all that money for charity is a brilliant endeavour and much appreciated by the community.

Well done to those involved, and I’m personally already looking forward to the 2025 procession already!
