The Liverpool Biennial is an insitution in the city (and the wider art scene). It surprised me to find out that this year, Liverpool Biennial 2025, is only thr 13th edition. It’s younger than me! It’s such an institution in Liverpool that I’d assumed it was much older than that. Which shows how established it is.
I was therefore delighted to be hired to take some photos of one of the events on opening weekend. The Biennial has a dedicated Learning department and their opening weekend was an invitation for children to make some art of their own.

The children were given tote bags with the Liverpool Biennial 2025 branding on, then let loose amongst paint, rollers, stamps, glue, glitter, all manner of crafts. With volnteers on hand to help with any tricky bits, the kids were encouraged to do whatever they wanted with the totes. Everyone left with a unique bag for sure!

One of the best parts of the day for me (apart from working with lovely staff all day) was the venue. The workshop was held in the Children’s section of Liverpool Central Library. This was revamped in the last 15 years or so and is now an incredible, welcoming building. The children’s area is nice and bright, with loads of space. And the main library has such an iconic glass ceiling:

So two Liverpool institutions in one go. Not a bad job really! It also meant spending the day in Liverpool which for me is always welcome, and replenishing. I’m lucky that I still have a network in place to continue being a photographer in Liverpool, as well as now living in and being a photographer in Stockport. It’s the best of both worlds and I am of course open to work anywhere!
Is right la.
