An exciting evening last Friday as I was covering my first Women’s Super League match of the season, for Alamy News. I’ve been privileged enough to be the pitchside photographer for Stockport County Women this season, but I haven’t shot top-flight women’s football since Manchester United‘s maiden Champions League campaign last season.
And my first match was a biggie – reigning champions Manchester City vs. Liverpool, a side much-improved from this time last year, and possible dark horses for a Champions League berth this season.
A rainy (obviously) evening at the Joie Stadium lined up then, and it didn’t disappoint.

It rained goals too (sorry) – the teams going in level at half-time after both teams took the lead and were then pegged back. 2-2 at the break.

And so it remained for the rest of the match. Until…

A Grace Clinton cross, deflected in for an own goal, and Lauren Hemp’s second of the match in stoppage time, turned a 2-2 into a 4-2 victory. That’s why they’re Champions?
