Fred the Red, Manchester United's mascot, before Manchester United Women vs. Lyon by local photographer Adam Edwards

United mascot Fred The Red before kick off between Manchester United Women vs. Lyon, 10.12.25

It’s been a pleasure to shoot Manchester United Women’s maiden Champions League campaign. From Leigh Sports Village to Old Trafford, and back again, we’re now 6 matches in. Plus a qualifying round before – my first match!

This week’s opponents were European super-heavyweights, the newly-renamed OL Lyonnes.

Being a Manchester photographer it’s been great to get involved with United Women. Such a likeable and talented team. Unfortunately on this occasion Lyon were too good – 3-0 winners at Leigh Sports Village, despite the best efforts of Maya Le Tissier and team.

There was some excellent support during Manchester United Women vs. Lyon – especially the French fans, ~20 of whom had flown over midweek to support their team. They did NOT stop singing for the full 90+5 minutes, and deserved OL Lyonnes’ victory just as much as the players!

United have already qualified for the next round – looking forward to it!
