Part of the Meet New Mills project.
Bele Brownies: Meet Kate, the owner of New Mills’ go-to for delicious sweet treats.

Name of business:
Bele Brownies.
Where did the name come from?
“Bele” is an acronym of my children’s initials, and it’s also the Hungarian word for “love”. And we do make brownies!
What do you offer?
We make our own brownies, cakes, blondies, bakewell slices, cookies, and loads more little treats. We also do cakes of ALL sizes, including birthday and wedding cakes too. Savoury wise, we offer a breakfast menu, or pies and pastries for those without a sweet tooth.
Thee’s also coffees, teas, hot chocolates, iced drinks too, all available to takeaway or sit in. The coffee range itself is quite extensive – if you fancy a Frappuccino do pop in!
How many people are in your team?
There’s 5 of us in total – myself, a part-time baker alongside me, and 3 running the shop across the week.
How long have you been open?
Since 2018 – going strong!
Are you from New Mills?
I’m from just down the road, Marple Bridge via Mellor. I bought the shop when it was previously called The Cakery – we’d been for afternoon tea here, and I loved it and its vibe. A few weeks later it appeared up for sale and I couldn’t resist! It’s been a change, career-wise, but it felt like fate and I don’t regret it.
What do you like about having your business in New Mills/living in New Mills?
The community! It’s very friendly, and family-orientated. We love being on the high street of the village – right in the middle of things.
Is there anything exciting going on at the moment?
We do amazing treat boxes that people might not know about – and wedding cakes too!
